ShiftDescription:POSITION PURPOSEThe primary purpose of the Cook is
to supervise the activities of the department and prepare food in
accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local
standards, guidelines and regulations, with our established
policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Manager. As
Server you are delegated the administrative authority,
responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out your
assigned duties.Disclaimer: The following statements are intended

necessary or appropriate by management. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSKnow,
understand, incorporate, and demonstrate the Mission, Vision,

Consistently demonstrate (leads by example) Sanctuary Values to all
internal and external customers (residents, visitors, volunteers,
and associates.) Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth,
propagating a calm environment throughout the community. Execute
assignments in a culture that is shared and collaborative across
all divisions within TSLC. Prepare meals in accordance with planned
menus. Review menus prior to preparation of food. Perform
administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms,
reports, etc., and submit to the Manager. Ensure that menus are
maintained and filed in accordance with established policies and
procedures. Coordinate service with other departments as necessary.
Assist in serving meals on a timely basis as needed. Ensure that
all procedures are followed in accordance with established
policies. Assist in standardizing the methods in which work will be
accomplished. Develop and maintain a good working rapport with
department personnel as well as with other departments within the
Community to assure that food service can be properly maintained to
meet the needs of the residents. Work with Community Managers as
necessary and implement recommended changes as required. Serve and
prepare food that is palatable and appetizing in accordance with
established portion control procedures, therapeutic diet needs,
standardized recipes, special diet needs. Make only authorized food
substitutions. Ensure that safety and sanitary regulations and
precautions are followed at all times by all personnel.
Assist/direct daily or scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with
established policies and procedures. Ensure that the department is
maintained in a clean and safe manner by assuring that necessary
equipment and supplies are maintained. Report all hazardous
conditions/equipment to the Dining Services Manager immediately.
Ensure that food and supplies for the next meal are readily
available. Assist in inventorying and storing incoming food,
supplies, etc., as necessary. Recommend to the Manager the
equipment and supply needs of the department. Assist in food
preparation for special meals, for parties, etc. Anticipate the
needs of residents and families, going "above and beyond" routinely
to provide a comfortable environment and home atmosphere. Respect
resident rights, including maintaining the confidentiality of all
resident care information, knocking before entering a resident's
room, honoring the residents' personal and property rights,
informing the resident when it is necessary to move his/her
personal possessions and reporting complaints of missing property
to Supervisor. Attend and participate in scheduled training,
in-service training, mandatory annual in-service training and
educational classes as required/needed. Report occupational
exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and
hazardous chemicals in accordance with the community policies and
procedures.MINIMUM QUALIFACTIONSHigh School Diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in food preparation and handling, preferably
working in assisted living or with the geriatric population.
ServSafe Certification preferred or must be able to obtain
certification within 6 months of hire. Ability to use various food
preparation tools and appliances. Must possess excellent customer
service skills and professionalism. Must possess strong verbal and
written communication skills. Ability to adapt to ongoing change
and work in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment. Possesses
interpersonal and relationship building skills to work in a
cross-functional team as well as the ability to work with residents
based on their cognitive ability. Self-starter, highly motivated
with a high productivity level. Possesses a high degree of personal
accountability, responsibility and strong decision making
abilities. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop,
implement and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies and
procedures of the organization. Basic computer knowledge and
skills. Position requires minimal travel (less than 10%) within the
Community's geographic region and to home office in Livonia,
MI.PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIRMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONSMust be
able to adapt to frequently changing work parameters. Must be able
to see, hear and smell or use prosthetics that will enable these
senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this
position can be fully met. Primarily works inside with frequent
kneeling, crouching, reaching, sitting, walking, bending and
lifting. Must be able to push, pull, move and or lift a minimum of
25 pounds to a minimum height of 3 - feet and be able to push,
pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 10 feet.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents in
emergency situations.
